Frequently Asked Questions

Is it free to merge PDF files on FileSwift?

Yes — FileSwift provides a completely free PDF merge tool that requires no account registration, email signup, or credit card details. Anonymous users can perform up to 2 merges per day and free account holders get 5 merges per day. For professionals merging high volumes of documents, our Pro plan at £9/month provides unlimited daily merges with higher file size limits. Business users get a 500MB per-file limit for enterprise-scale document workflows. All merging is performed in a secure, encrypted cloud environment and your files are permanently deleted immediately after you download the result.

How many PDF files can I merge at once?

You can merge between 2 and 10 PDF files in a single operation on FileSwift. If you need to combine more than 10 files, simply merge them in batches — merge your first 10 into one file, then merge that result with your remaining files. There is no limit on how many times you can run the tool within your daily allowance. The drag-and-drop reorder feature lets you arrange files in exactly the right sequence before merging.

What is the maximum file size for merging PDFs?

Free and anonymous users can merge PDF files up to 10MB per individual file. For larger files such as high-resolution brochures, architectural drawings, or lengthy technical manuals, our Pro plan at £9/month increases the limit to 100MB per file. Business users get a 500MB per-file limit for the most demanding enterprise document workflows. These limits apply per individual file — the total size of all files being merged can be larger than the per-file limit.

Will merging PDFs affect the quality or content?

No — FileSwift merges PDFs without re-encoding, recompressing, or modifying any content. Every page from every source file is transferred exactly as-is into the merged output. Fonts, images, vector graphics, hyperlinks, bookmarks, and formatting are all fully preserved. The merged PDF is byte-for-byte identical in content quality to the original source files. The only change is that the pages are combined into a single document in the order you specified.

Can I choose the order pages appear in the merged PDF?

Yes — FileSwift gives you full control over the merge order. Before merging, you can drag and drop the files in the file list to arrange them in exactly the order you want. The merged PDF will contain all pages from the first file, followed by all pages from the second file, and so on, in the order you set. Simply grab the drag handle on the left of any file row and drag it to the correct position before clicking Merge.

Are my PDF files kept private and secure?

Yes — your privacy and document security are our highest priorities. Every file you upload to FileSwift is transmitted over an encrypted HTTPS connection. All merge processing happens in an isolated, secure cloud environment using in-memory processing — your files are never written to disk. Most importantly, your files are permanently and irreversibly deleted from our servers immediately after you download the merged result. We never store, analyse, or share your documents. This makes FileSwift safe for merging sensitive business documents, legal contracts, financial statements, and personal files.

Can I merge password-protected PDF files?

Password-protected PDFs are not currently supported by the FileSwift merge tool. If you try to merge a password-protected file, the tool will return an error. To merge a protected PDF, first remove the password protection using a PDF password removal tool, then upload the unlocked file to FileSwift. Support for password-protected PDFs with the correct password entered at upload time is planned for a future update.
